Eric Silberger, violin

Niccolò Paganini – 24 Caprices, Op. 1

Note from the host:

One of the upsides of this new age in the life of Groupmuse is that we’re no longer bound to location. Whether you live in Nebraska or Nantucket, you can share a musical moment with NYC’s best young musicians without putting your shoes on. However, though space no longer limits us, time still does. An evening performance in Seattle means an absurdly late night for Boston ‘musers, so long as we remain a largely diurnal species.

So, out of deep reverence and love for our expansive West Coast community, we’re organizing our first West Coast Massivemuse Livestream — a top quality stream featuring a leading artist for a huge crowd — at a start time that doesn't catch you in the middle of the day.

And for the occasion, we’re busting out the fireworks. Beaming in live from a recording studio in Hawaii, Eric Silberger is one of the greatest violinists of our generation — literally: a prize winner at the Tchaikovsky Competition — and he’s readying for perhaps the most staggering displays of virtuosity in the entire violin repertoire — all of Niccolò Paganini’s 24 Caprices. Paganini is history’s greatest violinist, and he composed this series to showcase just what the violin could do when pushed to its limit. These pieces are gorgeous, tuneful, electrifying, and in hands a capable as Eric’s, they’re unforgettable.

This’ll be a big one too – almost 70 minutes worth of music, split apart by a brief intermission. You won’t be the same afterward.

The opening Zoom hang starts at 6pm PDT, the performance starts at 6.30pm PDT, and we’ll join back together afterward for a Q&A with our sure-to-be-exhausted hero of the evening, Eric Silberger.

See you there!

The livestream will take place at 6:30pm Pacific.
