Conductor Yoel Gamzou is currently Generalmusikdirektor of the Theater Bremen, a position he began at the outset of the 2017/18 season with a critically acclaimed new production of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Lady MacBeth of the Mtsensk District. This season in Bremen he will conduct in Premieres of Der Rosenkavalier and Jenufa. Elsewhere, he will make his debut with Tosca at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and he can be seen in new production of The Seven Deaths of Maria Callas staged by Marina Abramovic at the Bavarian State Opera, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Greek National Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and at the Opéra de Paris. He will conduct symphonic concerts with the Saarland State Orchestra Saarbrücken, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Szczecin. Finally in 2019/20, as constant promoter of young musicians, he will once again conduct the Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg.

Gamzou is also Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the International Mahler Orchestra (IMO), an ensemble he founded in 2006. Prior to his appointment as GMD in Bremen, Gamzou stepped in on short-notice to conduct the Staatsorchester Kassel in Mahler’s 9th Symphony and was immediately invited to become the orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor, and later First Kapellmeister and deputy-GMD of the Staatstheater Kassel, a position he maintained until summer 2015. During his time in Kassel, he led a variety of acclaimed concerts and opera productions including Fidelio, Tosca, Rigoletto, and Il Barbiere di Sivilgia.
