Ellen Reid, composer, sound artist, and Pulitzer Prize winner 2019, will present on creating her Pulitzer Prize-winning work – Creating p r i s m: unpacking the messy process of bringing ideas into the real world.
Reid describes her session: "We will trace the trajectory of p r i s m from its inception to its birth, examining different ways that cross-disciplinary art gets made, produced, discussed and seen. We will view excerpts from the production, discuss the process of developing the work, and brainstorm with the participating composers about their brewing big ideas. This masterclass will aim to empower artists to bring big ideas to fruition and not be deterred by setbacks."
Ellen Reid is one of the most innovative artists of her generation. A composer and sound artist whose breadth of work spans opera, sound design, film scoring, ensemble, and choral writing, she was awarded the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Music for her opera, p r i s m. She is a co-founder of the Luna Composition Lab, a mentorship program for young, female-identifying, non-binary, and gender nonconforming composers. Since the fall of 2019, she has served as Creative Advisor and Composer-in-Residence for Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Ellen received her BFA from Columbia University and her MA from California Institute of the Arts.
