George Frideric Handel — Messiah, HWV 56
An archival broadcast of a 2007 performance of Handel's Messiah by Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers led by OSSCS founder George Shangrow.
This particular performance from 2007 (when OSSCS produced a series of television broadcasts in collaboration with SCCTV) features soprano Catherine Haight, mezzo-soprano Melissa Plagemann, tenor Stephen Wall and baritone Brian Box. It is conducted by the maestro himself, the late, great George Shangrow, who also offers insights into this music that he knew so well.
The broadcast will be available at 2:30pm Pacific, and will remain online free of charge for the remainder of December.
OSSCS has access to recorded productions such as this Messiah thanks to donors that have been so generous in the past. OSSCS has been active during the past several months, hosting Zoom trivia nights, producing videos of new compositions and – most importantly – commissioning several new works to be featured on next season’s programs.
