Sine Nomine: Renaissance Choir presents its second performance of the 2020-21 season with a virtual performance of Spanish and Portugese Renaissance music inspired by the theme of ‘Lamentations.’ Singers have met virtually over five weeks to learn about the music, history, and culture that makes this music so uniquely beautiful.
Our concert premiere on March 14th will feature a selection of the pieces we studied and sang together: one setting of the Lamentations of Jeremiah and O vos omnes by Tomás Luis de Victoria, considered the most famous composer in 16th-century Spain; also we will offer Triste España sin ventura ("Sad, joyless Spain") by Juan del Encina, and Pater peccavi by Portugese composer Duarte Lobo. You will hear a brief spoken presentation by Director Anne Lyman incorporating the art and architecture of the period, pre-recorded performances by our singers, and you are invited to join an ongoing chat conversation during the concert. Do come join us!
The broadcast will take place at 3pm Pacific. (*Don't forget to SPRING forward one hour!*)
