Dmitri Shostakovich – Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District

In 2006, Amsterdam’s Dutch National Opera presented Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth. It was for this production that Mariss Jansons – one of the best-known conductors of Shostakovich’s scores – made his first appearance as a guest conductor at the Dutch National Opera. Directed for the stage by Martin Kušej, the cast includes soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek (in her Dutch National Opera debut) as Katerina Ismailova, tenor Christopher Ventris as Sergey, tenor Ludovit Ludha as Zinovy Ismailov, and bass Anatoly Kotcherga as Boris Ismailov.

The broadcast will take place at 8pm Eastern / 5pm Pacific. Available through May 31, 2021.
