Follow a 1000-year journey of Byzantine music, from medieval Constantinople to the Greek communities of California. Infused with 19th-century Italian, Russian, and Viennese choral traditions, the musical seeds carried by Greek immigrants to the New World blossomed in the next generation with soaring Renaissance style and Hollywood flair.
This program will include Byzantine chant and polyphony, as well as choral works by Michael Adamis (1929–2013), Theodore Bogdanos (1932–2019), Steven Cardiasmenos (b. 1958), Frank Desby (1922–92), Peter Michaelides (1930–2017), and Tikey Zes (b. 1927).
The concert will take place at 7:30pm.
Cappella Romana will also give 2 performances of this concert in Portland, June 4 and June 5. More information: https://cappellaromana.org/concert/from-constantinople-to-california/
