Seattle Send-Off Concert: Mostly Monteverdi
Free/donation TBD
Joan Conlon leads Via Monteverdi, a choral tour to cities where Claudio Monteverdi lived and worked, May 13-22, 2015. In Mantua, Venice and Rome, the choir will sing works from Monteverdi’s revolutionary Book 4 Madrigals (1603): Ohime, se tanto amate; Si, ch’io vorrei morire; Sfogava con le stelle; the sacred works Mass In illo tempore (1610), Beatus vir, Cantate Domino, and music by Palestrina, Josquin des Pres, Mendelssohn, Poulenc and some Americana by Horatio Parker – the teacher of Charles Ives.
Join us for a Seattle send-off concert. The choir will present tour selections in a program entitled Mostly Monteverdi, and Canzonetta will present Monteverdi’s Sestina: Lagrime d’amante al sepolcro dell’amata.
This program, presented by the Early Music Guild, is a benefit concert for the music program at Trinity Parish Episcopal Church, led by Martin Olson and Jo Baim.
