William Porter, organ

Dr. Porter is one of the world’s master improvisers, and master of the art of inspiring robust hymn-singing. He is a frequent and much-beloved guest artist at Saint Mark’s.

This season we celebrate especially the 50th anniversary of the Flentrop pipe organ. It was formally dedicated on September 19, 1965. The inaugural concert was performed by one of the greatest 20th century concert organists, E. Power Biggs, on September 25, 1965. A landmark among pipe organs in North America, it continues to inspire countless music lovers, organists, and organ builders.

Blessed by the acoustical resonance of the Nave, the intimate clarity of Thomsen Chapel, and the incomparable Flentrop and Fritts organs, Saint Mark’s offers unparalleled musical performances in unusually enchanting spaces.

Suggested donation: $18 adult; $12 student/senior. Advance passes available at the Cathedral Shop, (206) 323-1040.
