Gretchen Yanover Solo Electric Cello Recital
Free
Performing on electric cello and loop-sampler, Northwest Sinfonietta cellist Gretchen Yanover will give a recital performance of her own compositions. She will play selections from her solo albums (Bow and Cello and Waves Wash Over Us), and new work. She will share a bit with the audience about the process of her compositions, with an example of a fragment from a “classical” piece, which she records on her loop sampler and then adds layers of harmony upon which she plays her melodic lines.
Gretchen offers her music as an atmospheric aperitif, enabling concertgoers to transition to a certain frame of mind for deeper material as they experience their own “crossover” from their outward life to their inner experience of the music. The electric cello is a beautiful modern instrument, and attendees will enjoy seeing and hearing the creation of “live loops.”
The performance is free and open to the public, no ticket or RSVP required.
