The Westerlies 5th Birthday Party and CD Release
$100
Join us in celebrating our 5th birthday and the release of our second album! We will return to our roots, stepping away from the concert halls to present a concert experience in the heart of our hometown with the feel and intimacy of a living room. Your presence at this fundraising event will ensure that the development and presentation of this music can continue and expand to our global community.
Joining us will be GRAMMY-winning producer Jesse Lewis to reflect on his experience working with The Westerlies and celebrate their new release.
The Westerlies (a 501(c)3 nonprofit) transform their longstanding friendships into a boldly personal chamber music experience to enrich and inspire a global community.
In November of 2011, four childhood friends from Seattle met in the halls of Juilliard to create a self-described “accidental brass quartet,” taking their name from the prevailing winds from the West to the East. Five years later, The Westerlies have transformed their longstanding friendships into a chamber music experience that has enriched and inspired a global community with the precision of a string quartet, the audacity of a rock band, and the charm of a family sing-along.
“Skilled interpreters who are also adept improvisers” (NPR’s Fresh Air), The Westerlies explore jazz, roots, and chamber music influences to create the rarest of hybrids: music that is both "folk-like and composerly, lovely and intellectually rigorous” (NPR Music). Their self-titled sophomore album, featuring original compositions by each member of the ensemble captured in vivid detail by fellow Seattleite and GRAMMY-winning producer Jesse Lewis (Roomful of Teeth, Brooklyn Rider, Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma, LA Phil), pushes the sonic limits of the brass quartet instrumentation and reflects the unique sensibilities and personalities of Riley, Zubin, Andy, and Willem.
