A concert celebrating Hispanic and Latino cultural heritages.

Teresa Caballero, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, began her musical studies at age 11. After graduating with honors in music from Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (UANL) in Mexico in 2005, she became second flute with the UANL chamber orchestra and principal flutist with the Nuevo Leon symphony youth orchestra. In addition to her achievements as a performer, she received, for her contributions to music education, a first-prize award in the highly regarded CONARTE (Mexico´s National Council for Culture and the Arts) competition for authoring a series of innovative, instructional concerts for children. Teresa currently teaches private flute lessons in Seattle and teaches preschoolers skills and social/emotional development through music. Recently, Ms. Caballero has performed in BCO’s “El Grito” and “Las Posadas” concerts in September and December 2016 as well as in the “Encanto” concert at the Moore Theater on November 26, 2016.

Jose Iniguez, tenor, grew up in the small Washington farming community of Mattawa, Washington, where he developed a profound love for two very different styles of music, creating the “encanto,” defined by Mr. Iniguez as “a cultural journey that pairs the ethereal beauty of opera aria, classical music, and the charm of mariachi bolero. By blending these styles, he takes you on a cultural journey that pairs the ethereal beauty of opera aria and classical compositions with the charm of mariachi bolero. With the encouragement and support of his family, Mr. Iñiguez began singing at family events at the age of 12. During his teenage years, he joined middle and high school choirs simply for the enjoyment of performing. During his senior year of high school, he entered his first state vocal contest and discovered his inner drive to perform. He studied with Sydney Knesselroad at Central Washington University and currently studies under his professional mentor and retired opera performer, Jerry Hasley. Mr. Iñiguez won a 2016 Univision Latin Music award for his popular music program, Encanto, which he highlighted on his tour of Washington State last summer; he was also nominated for the 2015 Governors Individual Heritage award. In the spring of 2017 he will work with the iconic Robert Lang Studios in Shoreline, Washington, to create his first recording studio album. It is his intention to continue to share his passion in classical and bolero music and to use his talent to help raise funds for scholarships, art organizations, and community groups.
