Steven Noffsinger, clarinet
Christophe Chagnard, conductor

Giacomo Puccini – Intermezzo from Manon Lescaut
Carl Maria von Weber – Clarinet Concerto No. 1 in F minor, Op. 73
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67

From the conductor: No proper celebration would be complete without a least one Beethoven symphony. Over the course of its history, LUCO has explored all nine of them, an essential achievement and badge of honor for any orchestra worth its salt. Beethoven's prodigious capacity to extract so much great music from a simple idea reaches its apex in his fifth symphony with the universally famous fate knocking at the door theme. Our soloist, Steven Noffsinger, has had a tremendous impact on LUCO since joining in 2000, as much for his superlative musical contributions as for all that he is doing for the orchestra behind the scenes. Steven has been featured many times as a soloist and I'm delighted to be exploring Weber's First Clarinet Concerto for our final partnership. Puccini's "Intermezzo" from Manon Lescaut is one of those sublime gems that I've always wanted to perform but saved for last!
