We are happy to introduce a new concert series featuring our own Cathedral musicians in the intimate space of the Cathedral Chapel, with Friday performances at 2:00pm and 7:30pm. For the first of three Chapel Concerts in the 2019-2020 season, Cathedral Guitarist Mark Hilliard Wilson offers music from the twilight of the Sun King and the dawn of the New World – chaconnes and chacareras, milongas and menuets, from the palaces of Versailles to the cafés of Buenos Aires. Wilson weaves a tapestry of dances that sing of past glories, lost loves, and the possibility of renewal. This program will feature a wide range of music. Starting with the court of the Sun King, Louis the IVX with composers Francesco Corbetta and Francois Couperin we then move to music that refers to another Sun King, Quetzalcoatl, the second in the pantheon of the Aztecs and the music that emerged when the elements of European art music collided with indigenous and African influences. The second half of the concert will feature the music of neglected guitar greats Carlos Moscardini and Quique Sinese.
The 7:30 performance will follow the first Friday Taizé service in the Cathedral, which ends at approximately 7:10pm.
