Catalyst presents their program “Hemispheres: South America,” spanning nearly 100 years of string quartets by four South American composers representing Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. Beginning with the seminal work of the legendary Heitor Villa-Lobos, Catalyst presents a range of quartets exploring the diversity of composition within this region – from the bristling modernism of post-WWII Alberto Ginastera as well as the beloved and richly evocative “Nuevo tango” of Astor Piazzolla. Sit in for a Town Music concert celebrating a century of powerfully evocative works tracing the history of South American quartet composition, all performed by a group renowned for musical versatility.
