Cage – Sonatas and Interludes

A performance of John Cage’s monumental Sonatas and Interludes composed for the prepared piano, in which dozens of various-sized bolts, screws, pieces of rubber and plastic are inserted between the piano strings, transforming the sound of the instrument into a complex variety of percussive sounds.

Works for solo guitarist dutifully following the instructions given by the composers 63 and 53 years ago, followed by a growing ensemble of players that will be alternately improvising freely and following a very open set of instructions.

Join soprano Sarah Davis and friends for an intimate evening of art, song and chamber music inspired by nature’s beautiful song makers – from the whimsical musings of the cuckoo to the chirp of the lark, the cooing of the turtledove and the wistful, melancholic song of the nightingale.

Program includes David Little’s “Haunt of Last Nightfall,” which blends pre-recorded heavy metal sounds with live percussion, and John Cage’s “Credo in Us.”
